Whirlpool connects the Alexa Assistant and Google on their devices using the smart speaker.

Whirlpool smart appliances have already had some voice assistant control, but they become particularly skilled with artificial intelligence. The company has introduced a 2018 line where many devices are compatible with Amazon Alexa and the Google Assistant, allowing you to control most of your home using the smart speaker or mobile application of your choice. You can check the time left in the washing machine, turn on the dishwasher or change the temperature of your refrigerator without lifting a finger.

Certain devices have additional benefits. The Smart Front Control Range and Smart Over the Range Microwave join the Yummly recipe application to help you cook: you can send instructions directly to the device, with images and videos. You can scan UPC bar codes on some frozen foods for instructions as well. Amazon Virtual Dash can replenish connected refrigerators, while the Smart All-in-One washer and dryer can send laundry alerts to your Apple Watch. Even the Smart Energy Star certified dishwasher can communicate with your Nest devices and maintain the wash cycle until you go to work.

Whirlpool has not discussed the prices, but you should see your 2018 list arrive sometime in the spring. However, this clearly reflects how penetrating technology has become for the smart home: now you can buy more important appliances and assume that you will get smart controls that will adapt to the devices you have in your home.
