This is a Northern Irish variant of the “Appello E2S” alarm. This is the only crossing in Northern Ireland as of April 2021 that uses this kind of alarm, but is pretty common in mainland UK. 10 Examples of places that use this alarm:
Hykeham, Lincolnshire
Axe, Devon
Collingham, Nottinghamshire
Jacob’s Gutter Lane, Hampshire
Barmouth South, Gwynedd
West Dean, Wiltshire
East Dean, Hampshire
Milton Fen, Cambridgeshire (this crossing still has halogens!)
Kingsknowe, Edinburgh
Milford, Surrey
These are only just TEN examples. Some of these alarms speak, some don’t. The British one would say, “Warning, more than one train may be approaching” twice. But the northern Irish one says “Train approaching, do not cross.” I bet this could be used down south, which will probably be NEVER because they might not like E2S.
