International Development Minister Harjit Sajjan announced Tuesday that Canada would be sending $100 million in additional humanitarian aid for Ukraine and those fleeing the violence. He said the aid would go towards shelter, water, sanitation and food assistance.
Defence Minister Anita Anand also announced that Canada would be sending 1,600 fragmentation vests and just under 400,000 individual meal kits to Ukraine as part of the country's ongoing support for the country in both lethal and non-lethal aid.
Asked about some Canadian residents heading to Ukraine to fight in the battle to help Ukrainians, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said in French that every person has freedom in the country and their personal choices are respected. She said the government's responsibility is to provide accurate information and to be certain people who make dangerous choices "know that those are dangerous choices."
