Vijay's Mersal took an All Time Record Opening in Tamil Nadu beating all tamil movies and an all time 2nd highest opening worldwide for a Tamil Movie after Kabali.

Mersal has created a record for a Non rajni movie.

Unlike kabali though Mersal has not done well outside of tamil states.
