In today's episode of my series "Axes, Streets and Roads" I present you the Gihan el Sadat Axis, formerly also called El Fardous Axis. After the renovation, the Axis will begin at the end of Misr and Sudan Street and at the beginning of Ahmed Saeed Street. That is located in the "El Waili" district in the Abasseya area near downtown Cairo. This road is closed due to bridge construction.

You have to watch out for walking people, taxis, toktok's and especially for (white) microbuses. Their behavior is unpredictable and it can lead to a disaster. Otherwise is driving in Cairo, Egypt a funny and enjoyable thing. Always wear your seat belt and keep to the speed limit.

Gihan el Sadat (Axis)
Gihan el Sadat Axis, formerly also called Fardous Axis, connects in Stage 1 Salah Salem Street with Zakr Hussein Street in Nasr City.
It connects Nasr Road and Emtedad Ramses as well as the Mosheer Tantawy Axis.
Through the Axis it is possible to connect Salah Salem and Nasr City with New Cairo.
After the renovation, the Axis will begin at the end of Misr and Sudan Street and at the beginning of Ahmed Saeed Street.
That is located in the "El Waili" district in the Abasseya area near downtown Cairo.
The first stage cost 1.2 billion EGP. (67 million Euro).
The Axis was renamed in honor of Gihan el Sadat.
Gihan el Sadat was the wife of the former President Anwar el Sadat, who ruled the country from October 15th 1970 to October 6th 1981.
She was born as Gihan Safwat Raouf on August 29th 1933 and passed away 87 years later on July 21st 2021.
Prior to her death she had reportedly been battling cancer. She was honored with a state funeral in Cairo.
