Cartier is a French luxury goods conglomerate founded in Paris in 1847. They've created some of the most popular designer jewelry, with four collections in particular that have had major success. They are the Love collection, the Juste un Clou "Just a Nail" collection, the Trinity collection and the Panthere collection. In this video, I'll share some history about the Cartier brand, how all of these collections came to be and what inspired them. You'll get a look at a few examples from each, including the Love bracelet, the Juste un Clou bracelet, the Trinity ring, and a Panthere brooch.

The Love bracelet was the piece of jewelry that gave birth to the Cartier Love Collection. It was designed by an Italian-born American jewelry designer by the name of Aldo Cipullo. Since it's creation, it has also been dubbed the "slave bracelet," being that it has to be fastened with screws and only the miniature screwdriver that it comes with can unlock it. Traditionally, the person who gifted the bracelet is the one to keep the screwdriver. It was created in 1969 and was inspired by the medieval chastity belt which symbolized relationship security in some cultures. Cipullo sought to create something that represented everlasting love and eternal commitment.
𝘾𝘼𝙍𝙏𝙄𝙀𝙍 𝙅𝙐𝙎𝙏𝙀 𝙐𝙉 𝘾𝙇𝙊𝙐 "𝙅𝙐𝙎𝙏 𝘼 𝙉𝘼𝙄𝙇" 𝘾𝙊𝙇𝙇𝙀𝘾𝙏𝙄𝙊𝙉
Just two years later, Aldo Cipullo would present the world with another one of his creations, an industrial object he bent out of shape for curiosity sake, the Juste un Clou bracelet. This collection represents non-conformity and rebellion considering that everything else Cartier was creating at the time were highly embellished pieces for it's higher end clients. Because of it's minimalistic design, it's become a fashion statement for many male and female celebrities.

𝘾𝘼𝙍𝙏𝙄𝙀𝙍 𝙏𝙍𝙄𝙉𝙄𝙏𝙔 𝘾𝙊𝙇𝙇𝙀𝘾𝙏𝙄𝙊𝙉
The Trinity ring was created by Louis Cartier himself in 1924, now making it almost a century old. It was a commissioned piece, a personal request by Jean Cocteau, a poet, filmmaker and artist. It contains three different rings composed of three different metals: yellow, white and rose gold. It's meant to represent love, friendship and fidelity. Cartier has since expanded this collection to also include earrings, necklaces, and rings. This is probably their MOST iconic collection. The jewelry from this collection is elegant and timeless.
𝘾𝘼𝙍𝙏𝙄𝙀𝙍 𝙋𝘼𝙉𝙏𝙃𝙀𝙍𝙀 𝘾𝙊𝙇𝙇𝙀𝘾𝙏𝙄𝙊𝙉
In 1913, Jeanna "La Panthere" Toussaint joined Cartier as the director of their luxury jewelry. Fiercely inspired by animals, she encouraged her team to design more distinct three dimensions figures. The most distinguished bracelet in this collection was made in 1948, specifically for Wallis Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor, featuring an emerald from the Duke's own collection. One year later another piece was commissioned by the same couple: a brooch pairing a diamond cat and a sapphire. Jewelry from the Panthere collection is certainly eye-catching and displays the panther in an assortment of moods and expressions.
