Ultra-Orthodox Jews in Bnei Brak, near Tel Aviv, have taken to the streets to protest the Israeli government's decision to draft them into the army. This follows a unanimous ruling by Israel’s Supreme Court in June, which ordered the government to begin drafting ultra-Orthodox Jewish men, who had previously been exempt from military service. The ultra-Orthodox community, which makes up about 13% of Israel’s population, is opposed to this draft, arguing that their primary duty lies in religious study rather than military service.
