Don’t panic!👇
If you’re not used to practicing with the metronome, it’s normal for it to feel like it’s making things worse instead of better.
Just recognize that this is normal, and that it’s not forever.
Once you’ve made friends with your metronome, it becomes an invaluable tool in your practice, so it’s worth continuing to work on it.
But that doesn’t mean you should be banging your head against the wall with it.
When you push too hard, the metronome starts to feel like an unforgiving task master. Just hearing that dreaded click fills you with dread, and with it, stress and tension.
That’s the last thing we want!! So be gentle with yourself.
There’s an old proverb that I’ve adopted as a mantra for myself that goes, “I’m perfect just the way I am, AND there’s room for improvement.”
You’re doing great! AND once you get past this difficult time with the metronome, you’ll start seeing how helpful it can be.
