Piazza della Stazione is a large square in Florence dominated by the Firenze Santa Maria Novella Railway Station. It is the main railway station in Florence, Italy. Not far away from the Santa Maria Novella train station is Piazza Santa Maria Novella, a place where fairs and festivals are organized throughout the year. Piazza Santa Maria Novella was born in 1287 and completed around 1325. The two marble obelisks topped with a Florentine lily are sitting each one atop four bronze turtles by Giambologna. The main attraction in the piazza is the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, built between 1279 and the middle of the 1300s. The church was consecrated in 1420. The Renaissance façade by Leon Battista Alberti dates to the 1470s and it is the oldest standing façade to still exist in Florence.
