THE CELTIC-SLAVIC MUSIC HERITAGE – Part 1 of a festive concert with reflections and memories by Mira Omerzel - Mirit, Ph.D.
Celebrating the 40th anniversary of the VEDUN Ensemble (formerly TRUTAMORA SLOVENICA/TRUTA Ensemble).
To mark this very special jubilee, 40 years of the VEDUN Ensemble, the musicians (Mira Omerzel - Mirit, Tine Omerzel Terlep, Igor Meglič, Mojka Žagar, Matjaž Doljak, Polona Kuret, Matija Terlep, Katja Stare) presented an exceptionally long concert (3.5 hours) in Ljubljana’s Festival Hall. You can watch a video of the concert in 3 parts, in 3 themed sets:
Part 1: THE CELTIC-SLAVIC MUSIC HERITAGE
Part 2: THE ANCIENT SLOVENE AND PREHISTORIC MUSIC HERITAGE
Part 3: THE INDO-EUROPEAN, VEDIC AND FOREIGN ALCHEMY OF SOUND
At this festive concert, the current and former members of the Ensemble presented Slavic and ancient Slovene roots, the foundation of the Slovene people – from remotest prehistory to the present (from prehistoric bone flutes, Celtic harps, Slavic zithers and gusle, Vedic/Indian musical instruments, Slavic and Arabic tambouras, big and small drums, citire and bunkule from the Resia region, right up to contemporary fiddles). 140 (108 types) of forgotten instruments connected to the Slavic and Slovene soul reverberated on the stage. Mirit and the musicians brought to life ancient and folk melodies and songs from different times and cultures (for example, Slavic throat singing) along with ancient sound practices. But the very core of all their musical harmonies is the priestly-therapeutic performance of the (channelled) harmonising sounds of the past and of the current moment.
The Ensemble's work is based as much on Mirit's field, archival and personal research as it is on the members’ constant expansion of consciousness and the spiritual awakening of their abilities. On their boundless sonic quests. Most of the musicians are educators: teachers of the spiritual wisdom of the world (Mirit and Tine), of natural singing (Mojka), of the violin (Polona), of the guitar (Igor), of the flute (Katja), etc. Most of them are students of Mirit's Veduna School for Therapists.
