Garmin Vivosmart 3 review
Garmin Vivosmart 3 Summary
The Garmin Vivosmart 3 is Garmin’s answer and direct competition to the Fitbit Charge 2 and newly released Fitbit Alta HR given its price price point around £130/$150 mark The Vivosmart series has not been updated for over a year since the Vivosmart HR and its a surprise it does not feature built in GPS or the ability to connect it your phone GPS like you can with the Fitbit Alta HR for example. This is fairly limiting as you cannot use it for activities such as cycling.

Garmin Vivosmart 3 key features
* New 24×7 Stress Tracking Mode: This will score (1-100) and (low/med/high) your stress levels constantly (Update: This will come to the Fenix5 and FR935 via firmware update, no specific date is finalised yet)
* VO2Max/Fitness Level Scoring: This will give you both a VO2Max value and a general score
* New Relax/Breathing timer: This will walk you through breathing exercises to help you relax
* Strength training mode: This can now count reps during certain activities
* More constant 24×7 HR mode: This is akin to Fenix5/FR935 with far more frequent HR updates
* Watch face choices: You can now select some (limited) watch faces
* New Stop Watch/Countdown Timer: Pretty self-explanatory
* Auto-start for Run/Walk Activity: Allows you to automatically trigger these workout types
* Far thinner design: Reduced by 4mm compared to Vivosmart HR
The Garmin Vivosmart 3 is a good upgrade from the Vivosmart HR and a excellent alternative to the Fitbit Alta HR or Charge 2. The introduction of the stress tracking feature in my view will help compliment the sleep tracking and Garmin should take this in direction to give you loads of data about your health. The activity tracking works as you would expect, but sometimes the automatic workout tracking does not catch walking and the lack of swim tracking is a big miss. The rep counting feature could be a game changer if Garmin improvement it over time, but its a pretty good start. I would say the Garmin Vivosmart 3 is a good solid fitness tracker that really surprised me given its a mid range device.
