Spice Cake with Homemade Caramel Sauce
Spice cake Ingredients
* Dry Ingredients
* 2 1/4 Cup all-purpose flour
* 1/2 tsp Salt
* 1 Tbsp Baking powder (NOT baking soda)
* 2 tsp Cinnamon
* 1 tsp Ginger
* 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
* 1/2 tsp Cloves
* 1/2 tsp Allspice
* Wet Ingredients
* 1 Stick (8 Tbsp) melted butter
* 1/2 Cup brown sugar
* 1/2 Cup white sugar
* 1/3 Cup whole milk
* 2 tsp Vanilla
* 3 Beaten eggs
Caramel Sauce Ingredients
* 4 Tbsp melted butter
* 1/2 Cup Cream
* 1 Cup brown sugar
* 1/2 tsp vanilla
* Pinch of salt
Spice Cake Method
1. Pre-heat oven to 350F
2. In a bowl mix together dry ingredients (flour, salt, baking powder, & spices listed above) & set aside
3. In another bowl mix together the rest of the spice cake ingredients (wet ingredients)
4. Take the dry ingredients and slowly mix it in with the wet ingredients
5. Once the cake batter is well combined spray a 9 x 13 cake pan
6. Pour in cake batter & spread evenly (wet bake of spatula or your hands to make spreading easier)
7. Bake cake for 28-30 minutes
8. Set aside to cool before adding caramel sauce
Caramel Sauce Method
1. Heat a sauce pan to medium-low
2. Add butter to melt
3. Next pour in cream & add brown sugar
4. Whisk slowly and let it cook for 5-7 minutes or until thick
5. Once caramel sauce is thick remove it off the heat
6. Add salt & vanilla
7. Mix again
8. Enjoy!
NOTE: Keep cake and caramel sauce refrigerated. Store caramel sauce in a glass jar & heat up in microwave if it becomes too thick after refrigerating.
