A new airport for me, I've been wanting to visit Kemble for quite some time now, fortunately the right time came as BA retired its last 2 remaining 747's based at Heathrow. One of those aircraft, G-CIVB which wears the special Negus retro livery flew over from Heathrow to Kemble for her indefinite future. This event became a defining day in the history of aviation with one of the most iconic airplanes now leaving the skies. There were many more Queen of the Skies to see at Kemble too, all of which share the same fate as BA's
After filming the arrival of Negus in a spot of good weather, just at the right time, I decided to venture round the airfield and grab some footage of what is stored at Kemble. A lot of 747's and older aircraft including some 727's, 737 classics and 757s. Most of the aircraft would be broken down for scrap parts and eventually dismantled.
Definitely a sad sight to see these airliners parked up with their fates sealed, but also nice to see something unique for a change. The BA 747 was definitely a highlight, and loads of people turned up to see her. Cotswold Airport are currently in talks to get to keep VB as a museum piece preserved so the public can visit. Let's hope that goes ahead and she doesn't get scrapped for parts like the rest of the jumbos here.
Aircraft filmed in this video includes: Many Ex BA 747's, a KLM 747, Saudia 747's, Corsair 747's, Jet2 757's and a 737 classic, Indigo A320, TAP A319, Eurowings/Czech Airlines A319, some A340's, 727's and more
