The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists has kept its Doomsday Clock set at 90 seconds to midnight, citing concerns about the potential use of nuclear weapons in the Russo-Ukrainian war, the "horrors of modern war" in Israel and Gaza, as well as the worsening climate crisis.
The metaphorical Doomsday Clock was set to 90 seconds to midnight last year, the closest to midnight since its establishment after the Second World War.
President and chief executive of the organization, Rachel Bronson said that “Ninety seconds to midnight is profoundly unsustainable” adding that "trends continue to point ominously towards global catastrophe.".
