In today's episode, we explore the abandoned birnbeck pier, weston-super-mare. The pier was originally built on the 5th of June 1867. There were many additions to the pier including steam boat rides and a funfair was build but unfortunately in 1933 there was a fire which left the pier abandoned. The Admiralty took over the pier in 1941 and it was used for secret weapons development and storage until 1946. Its rumoured that the bouncing bomb was developed here and tested nearby. The peir reopened shortly after the war but the number of visitors was in decline and it was left abandoned in 1979. It remained open to anglers until 1994 and has stood as a historic buildings at risk ever since. Join us on this adventure as we explore the abandoned pier..
The Bristol channel has the 2nd quickest tidal change in the world. There is a risk of being caught out if you attempt to go on the pier.
