The drink is known as Red Beer or a Red Eye. In some places it is referred to as a Tomato Beer.
It can be considered as a twist of a Bloody Mary, replacing the vodka component with beer.
This is a very simple and easy to make recipe – you simply need to top your beer of choice with tomato juice and some spice. Actually, some recipes call only for beer, mixed with tomato juice and a pinch of salt.
Due to its low ABV, the Red Beer is considered as a good brunch drink, or for those moments you would don’t really feel like drinking, but with for something fancier than just a beer.
INGREDIENTS:
120-150 ml (4-5 oz) Tomato juice
1-2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
2-3 dashes Hot souce
360 ml (12 oz) Beer*
Salt
Olives (for garnish)
* Any beer can be used for preparing this drink, but light lager style beers work best, allowing you to appreciate the rest of the components.
METHOD:
Take a voluminous glass and wet the rim using a lime or lemon wedge and dip it in a plate with coarse salt. In my opinion, do half of the rim, allowing the consumer to have a choice. Pour the tomato juice and the sauces inside the glass. Top ut with the beer and gently stir.
Decorate with some olives and/or a pickle.
Feel free to play with the ratios until you find the combination that works best for you!
