When Gary, a father and husband living in Rosebud, was diagnosed with prostate cancer at the age of 60, he was surprised.
He hadn’t displayed any symptoms and was unaware that he could have cancer in his body.
A precautionary scan of his prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels revealed cancer in the prostate, a small gland that sits below the bladder in males.
“I felt fit and healthy, and nothing was notably wrong,” shares Gary. “It was quite a surprise to find out I had prostate cancer.”
When biopsy results showed a severe grade of cancer, surgeons at Frankston Hospital were quick to act, removing Gary’s prostate and with it the cancer before it spread even further.
Now cancer free, Gary isn’t letting his cancer journey impact him, keeping in regular contact with nurses who are giving him the best chance at recovery.
Take a Break for Cancer this September to help us help more men like Gary receive an earlier prostate cancer diagnosis.
