Avarekai Jowar Rava Upma - Millets | Jonna Ravva Upma | Chiru Danyalu Upma
Ingredients
jowar(jonna) rawa-1cup
avarekai(flat beans)-1/2 cup
onions-1 chopped
tomato-1 chopped
green chillies-3 chopped
ginger-1 small piece finely chopped
curryleaves-few
coriander leaves-a handful
grated coconut-2 tablespoon
oil-2 tablespoons
mustard seeds-1/2 teaspoon
cumin seeds-1/4 teaspoon
urad dal-1 teaspoon
chana dal- 1 teaspoon
water-3 cups(for 1 cup jowar rava use 3 cups water)
salt - as per taste
Method
Heat a vessel and add oil.
Once oil is heated add mustard seeds,cumin seeds,chana dal and urad dal.
Let them splutter.
Add chopped onions ,curryleaves,greenchillies and ginger.
Saute them well.
Add a pinch of salt for the onions to fry faster.
Once the onion changes its colour slightlt add the chopped tomatoes and saute well.
Cover the lid and cook well till the tomatoes are soft.
once the tomatoes are cooked well add 3 cups of water.For 1 measure of jowar rava add 3 measures of water. This rava takes slightly more cooking time than normal rava.
Add the boiled avarekai and adjust the salt as per your taste.
Close the lid and allow to boil.
Once the water boils add the jowar rava and mix well.
Cover and cook for 10 minutes in medium flame.
After 10 minutes open the lid and check.
Cook for another 2 minutes without the lid.
Add the chopped coriander leaves and grated coconut.
Switch off the stove .
Add some lemon juice as per your taste.
Close for 5 mnutes before serving.
Delicious jowar avarekai upma is ready to serve.
