The rebel Donetsk People's Republic claimed control of the village of Donske in eastern Ukraine after fighting involving heavy shelling which damaged residential buildings.
Video from the town showed an apartment block left with shattered windows and blackened walls, while burnt out artillery hardware and shells lay in the street,
Local resident Roa Sergeyev said during the shelling he witnessed soldiers from an unspecified side taking wounded people to safety.
Many of those who live in Donske, which remains without electricity and gas, had taken refuge in basement bomb shelters during the fighting.
Russia declared its recognition of the separatist Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics prior to its wider invasion of Ukraine.
