STORYLINE:
A ceasefire attempt in the Middle East already marred by violence was dealt a further blow after Israeli forces backed with tanks and bulldozers entered the Palestinian refugee camp of Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip early on Wednesday, killing two Palestinians and destroying buildings.
In Jerusalem it was announced a Palestinian house painter employed by Jerusalem's Hebrew University has been arrested on suspicion he planted a bomb at the student cafeteria that killed nine people, including five Americans, last month.

Scenes of destruction in the aftermath of Israel's overnight attack on the Khan Younis refugee camp in Gaza city.
The camp has been a hotbed of violence since fighting erupted in September 2000.
The Israeli army said it went in to destroy two empty buildings used by militants firing on nearby Jewish settlements.
0021
But Palestinians said one of the buildings was occupied by an extended family.
24 year old Adnan Briaees was killed by shrapnel when the army blew up the building.
0031 UPSOUND
0033 On Wednesday, Palestinians held a funeral parade through the same streets Israeli tanks had rolled down overnight. Adnan's body was carried aloft alongside that of a 15 year old killed by Israeli army fire on Tuesday.
UPSOUND: Shot,
0047 As is standard at such funerals, gunmen fired shots into the air.

Meanwhile in Jerusalem it was announced police had arrested a painter for this bombing at the end of July in Jerusalem's Hebrew University. Nine people were killed including five Americans.

The suspect was identified as Mohammed Oudeh, who lived with his son, seen here, and the rest of his family in Jerusalem. They said he wasn't interested in politics, only his family.
0113
It was the first time such a bombing had been carried out by a Jerusalem resident, something the authorities say doesn't bode well for the future of the peace process.
