William "Bill" Smith was a legendary Vince Gironda-trained bodybuilder who acted in about 300 different movies during his 88 year lifetime. He passed away right after his final Independence Day on July 5, 2021. Perhaps best known as Arnold Schwarzenegger's father in "Conan The Barbarian" and Clint Eastwood's most challenging bare-knuckle fight opponent in 1980s "Any Which Way You Can", he easily upstaged "Broadway Joe" Namath a decade earlier in "C.C. and Company". Joe was quarterback for the Jets when they upset the Colts in SuperBowl III, and was such a big deal at the time that he was the headliner of this biker picture. The scenes I've posted here include a fight nowhere near as cool as the one between Bill and Clint, but check out Bill's lateral triceps heads! And "how about that Ann Margaret", as Bob Hope used to say. Currently, you can catch Joe about a million times a day on TV doing commercials for senior citizen medical care insurance. You should dedicate the rest of your life to trying to watch all of William Smith's movies, that's what I'm going to do. Thanks for watching!
