STEP 1 - Measure your tape, and then rip the backing paper into three. The first for the base anchor, the second for the tendon and muscle-tendon unit and the third for gastrocnemius and top anchor.
STEP 2 - Lay section one (your first base) under calcaneum with no stretch.
STEP 3 - Move the foot into dorsiflexion using your knee (or by asking your patient to lunge forward keeping the back leg straight).
STEP 4 - Lay the second section of the tape over the Achilles tendon and muscle-tendon unit with 50% tension, being careful to mould the tape around the tendon.
STEP 5 - Maintaining the stretch on the calf, lay the rest of the tape along the belly of gastrocnemius with 0% tension. You can choose here whether to bias medial or lateral gastroc or split the tape into a Y in order to cover both.
STEP 6 - Return your patient to neutral and re-test ankle function and pain in your screening tests.
