Clashes erupted in Istanbul and Ankara a day after 245 miners died in an accident that has turned into one of the world's deadliest mining disasters in decades.
Hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets to demonstrate and show support to the victims of the accident in Soma, western Turkey, where a coal mine fire and explosion killed and injured hundreds.
Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said 787 people were inside the mine at the time of Tuesday's explosion, and that some 400 emergency workers were involved in search and rescue operations.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared three days of national mourning and ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff after the tragedy struck.
