This video provides an overview of the assessment tool presented by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN).
The tool was outlined in a 2012 Consensus Statement titled "Characteristics Recommended for the Identification and Documentation of Adult Malnutrition."

Understanding the AND/ASPEN malnutrition guidelines is important because it guides the clinical practice of most registered dietitians in the hospital and can be used for malnutrition diagnosis.
