This is the clay soil they start out with. You can see it has lots of clumps. These are the hammermills that pulverize the soil. You can see the soil in the background. It's a fine powder. That way it mixes well with the cement. Shovel the soil into the top and then it shoots out the powder in the front there into that pile. This is a mortar mixer. They take the pulverized soil and mix it with cement seven to one (7:1) -- seven parts pulverized soil to one part cement. Mix it with water and then dump it into this mixing trough here. This is the CEB press that compresses the soil into earth blocks. You raise the arm, pull the arm down to compress the earth, raise it back up to the other side to release it, take the blocks out. These are the finished earthen blocks.
