Our involvement with endangered crocodile species survival plans has made numerous advancements over the last few years. Currently, Phoenix Herpetological Sanctuary has breeding programs for five different endangered species of crocodiles; and our ambitions are set on two more! For the last seven years, our president, Russ Johnson, has been working with the Madras Crocodile Bank Trust in India to secure a transfer for the LAST TWO species of crocodilians we currently don't have - the Indian Gharial, and the Mugger Crocodile.
.
Coincidentally, the esteemed founder of the Madras Crocodile Bank, Romulus Whitaker, was present at the Sacramento Reptile Expo. This provided the ideal opportunity for our us to celebrate the pending trade. In exchange for the crocodiles we will receive, our facility will be sending two species of crocodile to India (African Dwarf Crocodiles and American Crocodiles).
.
We couldn't be more excited to be collaborating with such an iconic herpetological authority and to bring these species to our facility to be on display for our guests. With hope, we will be able to successfully produce these animals in captivity so they can be incorporated into their respective survival plans.
