My suggestion is to visit Mahanakhon Skywalk more or less one hour before sunset. This way you will be able to experience the vie during the day and if you stay a bit longer also at night. Mind that the entrance fee is lower from Monday - Friday compared to weekends. Overall it was a very nice experience, definitely one of the best rooftops in Bangkok.
