The crackdown, which unfolded in the Hazari Gali area, escalated after a member of the Jamaat-e-Islami posted derogatory remarks about Hinduism. The situation turned violent, with Hindu residents confronting the offending party, and the Bangladeshi Army and police intervening forcefully. In the chaos, Hindu civilians were beaten, homes ransacked, and over 200 arrests made. The attack follows a disturbing rise in violence against Bangladesh’s minority communities, with the government pledging action but facing criticism for inadequate response.
