चुनाव आयोग ने उत्तर प्रदेश में होने वाले उपचुनाव के लिए 9 सीटों पर मतदान का ऐलान किया है लेकिन सबसे चर्चित मिल्कीपुर सीट पर तारीखों का ऐलान नहीं किया गया. यूपी में कुल 10 सीटों पर उपचुनाव होना था.
एग्जिट पोल पर सीईसी राजीव कुमार ने कहा, "एग्जिट पोल और उससे जुड़ी अपेक्षाओं के कारण बड़ी गड़बड़ी पैदा हो रही है. यह प्रेस, खास तौर पर इलेक्ट्रॉनिक मीडिया के लिए विचार-विमर्श और आत्मनिरीक्षण का विषय है. 2-3 चीजें एक साथ हो रही हैं. सबसे पहले एग्जिट पोल आता है - हम इसे नियंत्रित नहीं करते लेकिन आत्मनिरीक्षण की जरूरत है कि सैंपल साइज क्या था, सर्वे कहां हुआ, नतीजे कैसे आए और अगर मैं उस नतीजे से मेल नहीं खाता तो मेरी क्या जिम्मेदारी है, क्या कोई खुलासा हुआ है. इन सब पर गौर करने की जरूरत है. ऐसी संस्थाएं हैं जो इसे नियंत्रित करती हैं. मुझे यकीन है कि अब समय आ गया है कि एसोसिएशन/संस्थाएं जो इसे नियंत्रित करती हैं, वे कुछ आत्म-नियमन करेंगी. मतगणना चुनाव खत्म होने के लगभग तीसरे दिन होती है. शाम 6 बजे से उम्मीदें बढ़ जाती हैं लेकिन सार्वजनिक प्रकटीकरण में इसका कोई वैज्ञानिक आधार नहीं है. जब मतगणना शुरू होती है तो नतीजे सुबह 8.05-8.10 बजे आने शुरू हो जाते हैं. यह बकवास है. पहली गिनती (ईवीएम की) सुबह 8.30 बजे शुरू होती है क्या शुरुआती रुझान एग्जिट पोल को सही ठहराते हैं? हम सुबह 9.30 बजे वेबसाइट पर नतीजे डालना शुरू करते हैं. इसलिए, जब वास्तविक नतीजे आने शुरू होते हैं तो उनमें अंतर होता है."
