This is a way straightness test on the lower head slideway of a Sheffield Microform grinder I'm rebuilding. I power and hand scraped the ways. The instrument in use is a Talyvel electronic level. Its sensitivity is shown by the one thousandth shim placed under one end of the four inch long sensor. The test determines if the base (the assembly is upside down) climbs or descends during translation over the whole range of movement of the leadscrew. Comments from the sane are welcome.
