Some exercises are meant to test gear while others test my endurance and field skills. This video covers an exercise designed to test both. This Search and Rescue exercise was designed by friend Frank Delisle at the LBJ Grasslands. The goal was to see how I perform in a situation where I am at the Grasslands to do a quick evaluation of camping gear with limited kit. I am interrupted by a need for 'boots on the ground' in a evolving search for a missing Girl Scout.
I want to thank Frank for designing the exercise around a composite of a couple of real-life situations. In addition to creating the scenario, he also went out in the Grasslands in advance to prepare physical sign for me.
In this exercise, I use the FENIX HP35R headlamp along with a substantially reduced kit. I am required to take direction 'on the fly' and hit a series of shortcuts. I did not have adequate field data for one shortcut which enhances the risk of getting lost or a serious time delay.
The risk element was enhanced by the ground still recovering from a recent rain and slippery leaves all over the ground.
I also want to thank Fenix Lighting for sending me the HP35R for evaluation. For more product information: [ Ссылка ]
