Describes the basics of putting together a two lens achromatic refractor telescope. This is conveniently built using a skyhunt optical bench (skyhunt.net) where the optical elements can be positioned, secured and rearranged as required for the various tests to be performed. The video discusses how to determine the focal length of a lens, as well as how to determine ultimate magnification. A video camera is used to show the view through the completed scope. With our video camera as the "viewer" and using the lenses on hand, we found the preferred distance between the objective and the lens is just slightly longer than the focal length of the objective.
