The Women’s Reservation Bill was presented by Law Minister, Arjun Ram Meghwal in the first session of the New Parliament Building. He gave a brief on the importance of the bill and said that this is a historic bill. The Women’s Reservation Bill presented in the Lok Sabha proposes that 1/3rd of seats in Lok Sabha, Vidhan Sabhas, and Delhi assembly are to be reserved for women. It also proposes that 1/3rd of the seats of the reserved seats within the quota for women are to be allocated to women from the ST or SC communities. Its implementation will be after a delimitation exercise and the reservation is proposed to be effective for 15 years.
