Asteroid 2024 PT5 is poised to become a temporary mini moon of Earth, a phenomenon that will last for about two months.
Asteroid 2024 PT5 belongs to a group called Arjuna asteroids, which have orbits similar to Earth's. Because it will come close to Earth at a slow speed, our planet's gravity will pull PT5 in, causing it to temporarily orbit us. However, it won't make a full loop around Earth; instead, it will eventually return to orbit around the sun.
