The great state of Minnesota is gearing up to provide eligible residents with $108 million in government sponsored stimulus funds.
In Ramsey County, board members are getting ready to funnel support toward their top priorities: providing affordable housing to residents and providing necessary stimulus efforts.
County Manager Ryan O’Connor explained: “I don’t think there’s a need for time to figure it out. I think it’s a matter of our will to collectively move on a topic that we are in crisis on, and it will take all of your help as elected officials and across this community to make that happen.”
With these incredible stimulus funds going towards affordable housing and assisting the people that need fiscal support the most, this is great news for all of my viewers across the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
Meanwhile, states across America are patiently awaiting details on when and how to spend the billions of dollars offered in President Biden’s $1.9 trillion stimulus package, the American Rescue Plan.
$350 billion were approved for states, municipalities, counties, tribes, and territories to help repair and recover budgets and economies, but these vital disaster relief funds have a deadline for when money must be spent.
Mark Ritacco, government affairs director at the National Association of Counties, explained: “The clock is certainly ticking. They have to get the money out the door by May 10.”
Emily Swenson Brock, director of the Government Finance Officers Association’s Federal Liaison Center, stated: “There’s just this wide berth of interpretation in the (legislative text) and that’s why we’re a little anxious to see if the Treasury guidance makes limitations or if it allows for greater opportunity.”
Hopefully these billions of dollars in stimulus disaster relief funds can start hitting state accounts soon, so that they can finally roll out their own stimulus efforts to offer targeted assistance for Americans in all 50 states across the country.
Finally, President Biden is getting ready to announce his new $1.8 trillion American Families Plan stimulus package sometime this week, with sources saying that he will announce the disaster relief bill this Wednesday.
Neither President Biden or White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki have stated whether or not a fourth stimulus check will be included, and politicians across America are still urging Congress to pass monthly stimulus checks to struggling Americans.
Fortunately, a group of 20 Democratic U.S. senators told Biden in a letter calling for recurring payments: "Families shouldn’t have to worry about whether they’ll have enough money to pay for essentials in the months ahead as the country continues to fight a global pandemic."
I hope President Biden can hear our cries for a fourth stimulus check, especially in the form of recurring monthly checks until we have full control over that thing out there.
