Thanks to the generosity of its principal benefactor, Marie Selby, who bequeathed these Gardens for public enjoyment in 1975, Selby Gardens has attracted attention and support from additional patrons. In addition to gaining considerable knowledge of tropical plants and their origins, visitors have a chance to learn about Sarasota’s rich legacy of environmental advocacy and philanthropy.
