Kamal Nath (born in 1946) is Union Cabinet Minister for Commerce and Industry of India since 2004. During his tenure, India hosted the G20 meeting in New Delhi in 2005 and assumed an important role in representing the interests of developing countries at the Doha-round negotiations.
Being a member of the India National Congress party (INC) since 1968, Nath held the position of General Secretary of the INC from 2001 until 2004 and was a member of the Congress Working Party, the highest decision making body of the INC. He was awarded the Business Reformer of the Year Award by the Economic Times India in 2008. Kamal Nath holds an Honorary Doctorate from Rani Durgawati University in Jabalpur, India.
