This video demonstrates the complex arthroscopic procedure of "Suture Bridge" fixation of detached cartilage with bone fragment from medial femoral condyle in a 10 year old child.
This procedure has the advantages of Arthroscopy (key-hole procedure) and the absorbable suture bridge has the advantage that hardware removal is not required.
Usually open surgery is done for reattachment of detached cartilage and bone fragments. But pain will be more and there will be more of stiffness of the operated joint. The metal screws used in open surgeries require removal at 3 months.
In the technique we demonstrate here the whole procedure is done by arthroscopy and there is no need for a second surgery. The knee can be moved immediately after surgery because the fixation is very strong.
