The Railways and NDRF conducted a joint mock drill to simulate a train accident in Kochi on May 18, 2023. The drill was conducted at the Ernakulam South Railway Station and was aimed at testing the preparedness of the two agencies in the event of a real-life accident. The drill began with a simulated train derailment. The NDRF teams then rushed to the scene and began rescue operations. They used cutting and lifting equipment to free the trapped passengers and took them to the triage area for medical attention. The Railways also deployed its own rescue teams and provided logistical support to the NDRF.
