Muğla is a settlement in the Aegean Region, famous for its holiday destinations such as Ortaca, Dalaman, Köyceğiz, Fethiye, Marmaris, Milas, Datça and Bodrum, of which a small part of its territory falls within the Mediterranean Region.
Located at the southwestern tip of Turkey, it is surrounded by Aydın in the north, Denizli and Burdur in the northeast, Antalya in the east, the Mediterranean Sea in the south and the Aegean Sea in the west. Muğla, with its sea coasts of 1479 km in total length, is the province of Turkey with a long coastline.
Bafa Lake, which spreads within the borders of Söke district of Milas and Aydın province, and Köyceğiz Lake in Köyceğiz district. The three important streams are Çine Stream (Yatağan Stream when passing through Yatağan), Esen Stream (Seki Stream when passing through Seki town) and Dalaman Stream, which is located between Ortaca and Dalaman and is considered as the border between these two districts.
There is Yatağan Thermal Power Plant in Yatağan district of the province, Yeniköy Thermal Power Plant in Yeniköy, Kemerköy Thermal Power Plant in Kemerköy. The mineral deposits of the province are rich. Yatağan lignite reserves and Fethiye chrome deposits can be counted as the first item in this sector. Mugla is also an important marble center.
Muğla province attracts attention with the diversity of its agricultural products. It is one of the most important centers of beekeeping in Turkey. There is both bee and pine honey in the region. Marmaris district is famous for its pine honey. Citrus cultivation (orange, lemon, tangerine, grapefruit) is widely practiced in Ortaca, Fethiye and Dalaman districts. Another product unique to the Marmaris-Köycegiz line is sweetgum oil, which is obtained from the daily tree and used in perfumery and pharmacy. It has developed in olive cultivation throughout the province.
One of the most well-known dishes is Muğla's unique tarhana. Tarhana is made in the summer and is dried by laying in front of windows, roofs and courtyards, and eaten in winter. Olives and dried peppers have also become a culture in Muğla. Especially table olives still maintain their importance in Muğla since the Carian period. Apart from these, Muğla Center also has its own unique dishes. It should not be forgotten that the pancake is especially a wedding meal, and there is no meal without it.
