Let’s just clarify: I’m not a plumber. This is not a “how to do it”. It’s an illustration that you need to think very carefully about some of the jobs you might think of taking on if you’re not a “professional”.
There's a few things to bear in mind if you're planning to do something like this and thinking "yeah that'll be easy" or if you're fooled by a couple of other videos that are out there that show a gentle little trickle coming out of the pipe.
Here's a little dose of what actually happens, including some mistakes.
Events took place in a building with a concrete floor, in an area where no damage would occur and where I knew I could clear up after. Even then there was risk that it could go wrong (much worse than it did). I knew what I was getting into and was ok with that and still the unexpected happened.
Hope you enjoy, take care.
Update on this cos I’ve been educated!! If your feed pipe is the same blue polypropylene you can get a pipe squeeze tool from toolstation or Screwfix and others that literally squashes the pipe to stop the water flow. Just google pipe squeeze tool.
My thanks to Northern Narrowboater for this tip.
In my defence I grew up in a time when mains water pipe was lead 😂😂😂
