The United States calls on Israel to be transparent over an air strike on a UN school in Gaza, including on whether children were killed. "The government of Israel has said that they are going to release more information about this strike, including the names of those who died in it. We expect them to be fully transparent in making that information public," US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller tells reporters.
On Thursday, an Israeli strike on a UN-run school killed dozens of people in the Nuseirat refugee camp, central Gaza.
Unrwa communications director Juliette Touma said that between 35 and 45 people were killed in the strike.
The Israeli army said the school contained a Hamas compound, and that its strike killed fighters involved in the 7 October attack on Israel.
It then added that 20 to 30 Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad fighters were gathered at the school.
The Gaza government’s media office strongly rejected these claims.
