Colonic pseudo-obstruction is a rare condition with symptoms that resemble the symptoms caused by a mechanical bowel blockage or obstruction. Foods and liquids are unable to pass through the intestine, causing a build-up of food, fluid, and gas in the bowel. However, when the bowel is examined by the healthcare provider, no blockage exists. Dr. Jennifer Ayscue discusses acute pseudo-ostruction in depth, including the risk factors, diagnostic modalities, conservative and pharmacologic treatment options, and endoscopic and surgical options.
