Took a trip from North West London to visit my man Luis, who runs 1800DubPlate out of Planet Wax in South London. We spoke briefly on the companies history as he cut 2 brand new 10” dubplates for me & allowed me to film to whole process.
Dubplate culture in the Caribbean / UK is a huge part of reggae, jungle, DnB, grime & other music genres - where DJs would cut 1-off 10” records to play new joints live. Now, with better materials & technology - dubplates are cut on special PVC with diamond tip cutters (in stereo) & lasts forever with general care. It also has a unique sound that is similar to vinyl, but in its own world of audio quality that is amazing.
The exclusivity & overall history of it is amazing for someone like me because listening to your own music on vinyl is unexplainable.
