People in prisons and jails experience many health inequities as they are disproportionately likely to have chronic health issues, as well as substance use and mental health problems. By applying a public health approach, we can effectively improve health outcomes for this population. In this session, Linda S. Vail of Health Management Associates discusses the impact of the jail population on public health and how local health departments (LHDs) and community-based organizations (CBOs) can collaborate with corrections on issues such as opioid use disorder (OUD) and Medication Assisted Recovery (MAR).
