Global Movement of Moderates is a loose confederation of like-minded individuals, organisations, state-actors, non-state actors and intelligentsia committed to promoting an enduring and just peace by beseeching the need for critical engagement that corresponds to the universal principles of justice, excellence and equilibrium.
KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 17, 2012): PAS MP Nasharuddin Mat Isa said the suggestion for talks between Umno and the Islamic party is not about forming an alliance but merely engaging for the betterment of the country.
"I believe in the need for dialogue, I believe in the need for everybody to participate for a good cause," said Nasharuddin in his address at the Global Movement of Moderates international conference today.
Nasharuddin, who is also the party's former deputy president, said such talks are not only confined to PAS and Umno but all political parties as there is a need for engagement for the betterment of the country.
"When we oppose something, we do it for the betterment of the country, whatever topics discussed should be for the betterment of the country.
"When you talk about unity ... or PAS and Umno sitting down to a dialogue, it is not about forming government or PAS joining Umno ... that has never been the agenda," explained Nasharuddin in a press conference later.
He stressed that all parties should look forward on ways to improve the nation.
Nasharuddin and other PAS leaders have in the past been accused of favouring and pushing for Umno-PAS unity talks.
Several Umno leaders have also expressed their support for such talks, however, the top PAS leadership has dismissed the suggestion.
