The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) today transferred 40 Biometric Registration Kits (BVR) to the Ministry of Devolution and Planning as a first batch of the 200 requested. The kits, which were used successfully to register 14.3 million voters in a record one month before the last general elections, have the capability of recording facial and fingerprint features in high quality.
The IEBC acquired 15,000 BVR kits. The 200 kits have been recalled from each of the 17 regional warehouses countrywide. The voters’ data have been transferred and the system cleaned to allow for the loading of a new operating system and software for registration of public servants. IEBC will replenish the transferred stock as and when need arises.
The transfer of the kits does not in any way affect our current operations. We have sufficient kits for to handle the continuous voter registration which is essentially an incremental exercise to allow those who did not register to do so.
