On the 69th anniversary of the founding of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, Arun Anand, research director at RSS affiliated think tank Vichar Vinimay Kendra, talks about the early days when Dr Syama Prasad Mukherjee -- who served as Minister for Industry and Supply in Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's cabinet -- was sworn in as president, how by 1967 the Jana Sangh was at its peak with Uttar Pradesh and Delhi emerging as strong bastions and how, post-Emergency, the Jana Sangh allied with other parties to form the Janata Party which then collapsed in July 1979.
