In this clinical video Dr Michael K McGuire demonstrates how to use the growth factor Emdogain to achieve coverage of gingival recessions.
This video was recorded during the randomized clinical trial conducted at Perio Health Professionals. The notch on the root surface was created to facilitate assessment of regeneration during histological analysis. There is no need to perform this step during routine surgical procedure.
As there is no audio, I will describe the most important steps of this surgical procedure:
1) The exposed root surface is scaled and root planed using hand instruments (back action chisel and curettes)
2) The root surface is conditioned with PreGel (24% EDTA) for 120 seconds.
3) A split-full-split thickness flap is reflected. Split thickness in the area of the papilla, full thickness up to the MGJ (mucogingival junction), split thickness past the MGJ.
4) Emdogain is applied to the root surface.
5) The flap is advanced coronally (past the CEJ) and sutured.
6) Emdogain is applied to the surface of the flap.
