Hi, Matt with etrailer, and today we're talking about the Pewag Chains with square links and cams on our 2023 Ford F-150. And the tire size we have today is gonna be 245/70R17 and that's gonna be on our rear axle. Now this is gonna be able to work with a multitude of different types of tire sizes. This is just one we have today. Now if you are worried about this fitting on your tires, you can plug in your vehicle's information into our fit guide to find out what's gonna be the right fit for you. But let's check it out.
These are gonna be a great set of chains for you if you need something for more extreme conditions and you want something that's gonna be a little bit easier to tighten down. Now the reason why it's gonna be great for extreme conditions is 'cause we got these square links. These square links are designed to bite through ice and snow, especially if it is deeper and what's gonna assist with that is gonna be these grooves on the links themselves to help with getting through that ice and snow. And these are also gonna be made out of a nickel alloy. That nickel alloy is gonna be more weather resistant, so this is gonna last you a lot longer than more of your standard chains.
We're also gonna have a ladder pattern designed to these and that ladder pattern is gonna help you with stopping and starting your vehicle. Now at the bottom right below there, we're gonna have these cams and this is what's gonna help tighten your chains down. If you have any issues when you're putting on regular chains and you always have a little bit of slack left over, this is going to help alleviate that. I will say we do have just this little, the smallest bit of slack leftover and when you are driving with these, they most likely are gonna help settle into place and loosen over time. So what I do recommend is investing in a rubber tensioner, especially if you do have the same tire size as us 'cause we do have it on its tightest setting right now.
Now this is also gonna come in a set of two in this pretty light duty bag. And with these being pretty heavy duty chains, you can already tell we just got this bag. There's already a few holes at the bottom of it and in no time, maybe two or three uses, it's gonna tear right through this bag. So what I recommend doing is storing your chains in a small tote if you wanna keep 'em for a long time. Also gonna come with this tool and that's to tighten down your cams.
Overall these are gonna be a great set of chains for you if you're looking for something to get you through more extreme conditions, whether you're going through a lot of snow, some deep ice, because we do have these square links at the top. Now if you're going through more moderate conditions, I would recommend either some twist links instead or just a smaller link size in general. I know Knig makes plenty of different types of chains that are smaller links and are really easy to get on, especially if you do like this ability to tighten down your chains pretty easily. But if you like these because they are pretty bulky, they're gonna give you a lot of bite through ice and snow, it's gonna be a great fit for you. So if you're curious about how we got 'em on, just stay tuned and we'll walk you through the process. To start off our installation, recommend grabbing some gloves, which is gonna make this a lot easier. And if you are doing it for the first time, I recommend staying home and trying it out because you don't wanna have to figure this out on the side of the road in the middle of a blizzard. For the first thing we want to check is our links. We wanna make sure there's no damages to 'em and everything's looking pretty good. And if it looks like that, we wanna make sure it's in the right orientation. So we'll have this hook. We wanna make sure this is facing up and not down so it's facing away from your tire. And we wanna make sure these cams are closest to me and we also wanna make sure they're not twisted up. They're facing this way, it's probably not gonna be a good fit. And we wanna make sure they're not already tightened up. If they're already tightened up it's probably gonna look something like that too. So make sure all your cams are loosened up and we can start putting this on our tire. I like to grab mine from the center and just drape it over the tire. Once you get it to this stage, I
